Side-Blotched Lizard
(Uta stansburiana)

You could always tell when the winter was breaking and the spring was on its way because these little fellows would be the first lizards seen on sunny days. You could think to yourself it was way to early but there they were. Not a large lizard by any stretch of the imagination but their mating displays are impressive. Often several sets of pushups worthy of any soldier and then males chasing each other back and forth across rocks and bolders.
